What I’ve Been Reading This Summer

This article is spoiler free!

I didn’t realize how much I relied on my Wi-Fi at home until I was left without it for 30 long days. Luckily, I still had my phone service that I tethered with devices around the house, using my phone as the personal hotspot. I wanted to make use of the time I had. The lack of internet prompted me to begin reading all the books on my list.

I find reading so relaxing. It takes your mind off all the troubles in the world. The hectic life at university left me with barely no time to read.

I decided to compile a list of the last five books I have read and tell you bit about each. I haven’t enjoyed them all but, I thought I’d share it with my readers anyway. I promise to not give anything away!

One book I had been dying to get my hands on was This Is Going to Be Okay by Adam Kay. This book is essentially a secret diary of a junior doctor who worked in the NHS in the 00’s. As I am now studying medicine, I thought this book would be a great read to gain an insight into what a career as a doctor in the NHS might really be like. I have read the book twice now and, rest assured, Adam Kay did not disappoint for a second. I have recommended this book to so many!

The next book I picked was The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. This was probably my favorite thriller so far. If you read the titled A Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins (or watched the movie), you’d definitely enjoy this! It’s a page-turner. As you read, you will feel like you understand the story line and then a few sentences change everything!

As I enjoyed The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins, I wanted to read Paula Hawkins’next novel titled Into the Water. It took me some time to make sense of the initially plot in the book. Once I fully grasped it, the book became more interesting. However, unlike her previous book, this novel lacked the element of suspense. Not my favorite but I did enjoy it.

I finally got to read Shari Lapena’s debut novel The Couple Next Door and I enjoyed every minute of this novel. It is a psychological thriller and revolves around the lives of a couple who have had recently had their baby abducted whilst they were next door attending a party. I just had to know the ending, so I fished the book in a day! Definitely worth a read!

Having loved Shari Lapena’s debut novel, I decided to purchase her next book titled The Stranger in the House. I have to say that I didn’t quite enjoy this book as her previous work. This novel is a psychological thriller as well. A wife receives a phone call and abruptly leaves her house only to end up in a bad car crash. Due to having suffered retrograde amnesia following the accident, she doesn’t remember how she got there or why she left the house in the first place. The ending keeps you guessing, I really hope this book sees a part 2!

I really enjoyed writing this and hope to do it more often. Would love to know the novels you are currently reading and any suggestions you might have for me in the comments below!
